Costa Fortuna

Destiny class

Operation status unconfirmed (last checked Oct 5, 2026)

According to Carnival Corporation's official materials as of February 28, 2026, the ship was sold in May 2025 and is scheduled to leave the fleet in September 2026. The official Margaritaville at Sea website lists it as Beachcomber, scheduled to enter service from Miami in January 2027. Its current operation under Costa Cruises cannot be confirmed from official information.

A ship based on the 2003-launched Destiny class, with interiors inspired by the golden age of ocean liners. At about 103,000 GT and with lower-berth capacity for around 2,700 guests, it was a mid-sized ship within Costa's fleet. It recently operated routes including the Canary Islands, but is scheduled to be sold and leave Costa's fleet, bringing its Costa service toward its end (see the note above for its operating status).

Atmosphere and guests
  • All ages
  • A 2003 Fortuna-class ship built on the same platform as Carnival's Destiny class. Its Art Deco interiors and models of 26 historic Costa ships suspended in the atrium evoke the golden age of Italian ocean liners. Venues such as the Rex Theatre and Neptunia 1932 Casino preserve the names of former ships. Mediterranean sailings from Genoa have been its mainstay, with past winter seasons toward South America, including Brazil. Current note: this veteran ship entered its 23rd year, and its sale to Margaritaville at Sea was announced in May 2025. After operating as Costa Cruises through the end of September 2026, it is scheduled to be refurbished and converted to Caribbean service as Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber, based in the Bahamas. This data describes the ship before the sale and refurbishment, during its Costa era.
  • A casual ship mainly attracting Italian and other European passengers. Mediterranean departures often attract families and multigenerational travelers, while the winter South America season also brings many local passengers onboard. In service for more than 20 years, it is among the more affordable ships in the Costa fleet. Japanese-speaking staff and Japanese cuisine have not been confirmed.

Entered service in 2003 and is not equipped with next-generation fuel engines such as LNG. A refurbishment of about €8 million was carried out in Singapore in 2018, but details such as any proprietary environmental certification could not be confirmed.

Practical information (line-wide)
Onboard currency

Gratuities
The service charge (gratuity) is not included in the fare. Instead, a fixed amount per night is automatically added to the onboard account after boarding. It applies uniformly to all ships and all guests regardless of fare type (Basic/Comfort-type/Deluxe), and guests are not expected to reduce or remove it at their discretion.
Payment
Cashless onboard
Voltage
Mainly 220V (depending on the ship, some are a mix supporting 110-220V/60Hz). Japanese devices that are 100V-only may not be usable without a transformer, so please check.
Formal nights
The number of gala nights roughly scales with cruise length: about 1 on a 3 to 4 night cruise, 2 on a 7-night cruise and 3 on a 10-night cruise. On Mediterranean cruises, 1 to 2 is typical.
Medical facilities
There is a medical center staffed by doctors and nurses, available 24 hours for emergencies. Consultations and treatment are not free and are charged to your onboard account each time (travel insurance generally cannot be used directly at the counter, and costs are usually claimed afterward). An exact Costa-specific fee schedule could not be confirmed from public information.
Bringing items onboard
Bringing alcohol on board is prohibited in principle, whether at embarkation or at ports of call, and anything found in X-ray screening is confiscated until the end of the cruise. Wine and champagne may be allowed only if approved by prior application, in which case a corkage fee of €10 per bottle is charged. Alcohol purchased at ports of call or in the onboard duty-free shops is also held until the end of the cruise (effectively confiscated).
Mobile and connectivity
The EU "free roaming" rule applies only on land, such as at ports of call. If your phone connects to the ship's maritime network at sea, expensive maritime roaming charges outside the scope of the regulation (both calls and data are far higher than usual) apply, so the practical standard approach at sea is to put your phone offline or in airplane mode and use Costa's onboard Wi-Fi package or an eSIM.
