Norway's third- or fourth-largest city and the former Viking capital founded in 997. The imposing Nidaros Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Olav, is a national sanctuary and known as Northern Europe's northernmost medieval cathedral. Colorful wooden warehouses line the river, and the city is also known for its cycling culture.
