Panama Canal

Panama Canal · Panama · 9.15, -79.82

A canal approximately 80 km long connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Ships are raised and lowered through locks as they cross Gatun Lake at an elevation of approximately 26 m, making it one of the world’s great civil-engineering achievements. For cruise passengers, the transit itself is a major event, with close views from the deck of the locks opening and closing and water levels changing.
