A small volcanic island off Iceland's southern coast and the largest of the Westman Islands. Known as the "Pompeii of the North," part of the town was buried by lava during the 1973 Eldfell eruption. It is also one of the world's largest breeding grounds for Atlantic puffins. Large ships land via tender boats.
